Children And Effects Of Domestic Violence - 1612 Words
CHILDREN AND THE EFFECTS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE Children and the Effects of Domestic Violence in the Home Domestic violence is any behavior of physical, sexual, emotional, or physiological acts or threats that intimidate a person or partner by trying to control or maintain power. Unfortunately, many children experience these harmful acts in the home between family members, all of different ages, ethnicities, and statuses. When thinking about a safe and healthy childhood and environment, what comes to mind? They should know violence in the home can change and can also be ended. According to The Facts on Children and Domestic Violence (2006), ââ¬Å"15.5 million U.S. children live in families in which partner violence occurred at least once in the past year, and seven million children live in families in which severe partner violence occurred and the majority of U.S. nonfatal intimate partner victimizations of women (two-thirds) occur at home. Argumentative Essay On Gay Marriage - 866 Words
In todayââ¬â¢s society, there are many conflicting issues with LGBT relationships. In contrast, there are many positive qualities associated with a multi-parent home. Everyone should have a choice to decide on whom they would like to share their life with. Gay marriage should be legal and a non-punishable offense because it can prevent teenage suicides, more children will be adopted, and people will not feel like second-class citizens. If humanity were to accept gay marriage, it would lower and prevent some teen suicides. Most teens are deciding and revealing their true colors in middle and high school. ââ¬Å"The number of suicide attempts among high school students decreased in states where same-sex marriage was legal. The findings coveredâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬Å"The hostility and homophobia common among their peers and family members create a need for an array of specialized services, including sex education designed for the needs of gay youth, mental health counseling and safe spaces for the youths to congregateâ⬠(Kelly). If the world would accept that anyone can love anybody, then schools could help prepare the kids. Also, families and other children would see that is not a complicated thing to be a part of the LGBT community. LGBT couples are also not even allowed to adopt children out of foster care systems. ââ¬Å"There are over 670,000 children that have spent time in U.S. foster care systemsâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Foster Careâ⬠). All people should get to experience having children. All children will bring so much joy and happiness to people. ââ¬Å"45 percent of lesbians and 36 percent of gays desire to have childrenâ⬠(Bernheim 46). Therefore, if LGBT couples were allowed to have children from all states, then that would definitely drop the number of foster care children. Heterosexual society views that children with same-sex parents are predestined to become part of the LGBT community. ââ¬Å"Children raised in same-sex households are proven to be more open-minded about different lifestyles and relationships than children who are raised in traditional opposite-sex householdsâ⬠(ââ¬Å"LGBT Adoption Advantagesâ⬠). An estimated 30% of people over the age of 50 are hypertensive. Although this ââ¬Å"silent killerâ⬠is usually asymptomatic for the first 10 to 20 yrs. , it slowly but surely strains the heart and damages the arteries. Prolonged hypertension is the major cause of heart failure, vascular disease, renal failure and stroke. Because the heart is forced to pump against greater resistance, it larges. When finally strained beyond its capacity to respond, the heart weakens and its walls become flabby. Hypertension also ravages the blood vessels, accelerating the progress of atherosclerosis. As the vessels become increasingly blocked, blood flow to the tissues becomes inadequate and vascular complications appear in the brain, heart, kidneys, and retinas of the eyes. Hypertension is defined physiologically as a condition of sustained arterial pressure of 140/90 or higher, the higher the pressure, greater the risk for serious cardiovascular problems. As a rule, elevated diastolic pressures are more significant medically, because they always indicate progressive occlusion and/ or hardening of the atrial tree. Industries Comparison Both retail and construction (real estate), which Wegmans and Camden correspondingly belo ng to, are considered rather prosperous industries. For instance, sales for retail reached $3.19 trillion, which is 3% higher than it was in the previous year (Annual Retail Industry Sales in the United States from 2000 to 2014 (in trillion U.S. Dollars) par. 1). In fact, as the graph below shows, the retail industry has grown significantly over the past decade in the United States. The phenomenon in question can be attributed to the development of the global market. Figure 1. Retail Industry in the U.S. (Annual Retail Industry Sales in the United States from 2000 to 2014 (in Trillion U.S. Dollars par. 1)) The same can be said about the retail industry. The increase in the amount of the U.S. population is obvious (); thus, retail industry must grow so that the increased demand of the U.S. population could be met.Advertising Looking for research paper on business economics? The Products The retail industry is known for providing its target customers with products that are typically characterized as hard and soft goods, food and arts (). The real estate industry, in its turn, offers all kinds of immovable property, particularly, houses and flats for purchase, rent and lease. Services Apart from renting buildings, the real estate industry offers brokerage and property assessment, as well as research and rent. The retail industry, in its turn, has a rather scarce amount of services, delivery being the primary one. Customers Customers use the services of retail industries much more often than the ones of the real estate industry. The specified phenomenon is quite understandable, as the products such as food, clothes, articles of personal use, etc. Economic and Regulatory Environment In the United States, the retail industry is traditionally regula ted by the Retail Law and the Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. Environmental protection Agency par. 1). The above-mentioned organizations define the quality of products to be supplied to the end customer and, therefore, determine the quality standards for the retail companies working in the U.S. environment. As far as the real estate industry is concerned, the latter is governed by the Real Estate and Property Law (Real Estate Law par. 1), as well as local laws specific for each state. Companiesââ¬â¢ Analysis Mission According to the official statement issued by Wegmans Food Market, the organizationââ¬â¢s mission concerns maintaining sustainability (Wegmans Food Market par. 1). Camden Property Trust, in its turn, aims at ââ¬Å"making the country a better place to liveâ⬠(About Us par. 1).Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Wegmans Food Markets v. Camden Property Trust specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page L earn More The specified goals can be viewed as adequate for the industries that the firms operate in. Moreover, the mission statements provided above show that both companies are willing to satisfy all stakeholders involved, which clearly makes both firms competitive in the target markets. Vision Unlike Camden, whose vision involves promoting sustainable use of resources, Wegmans aims at a much more global outcome. Particularly, the company uses an American proverb as its vision statement in order to convey the idea of harmlessness and sustainability: ââ¬Å"We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our childrenâ⬠(Caroll and Buchholtz 133). Values Wegmanââ¬â¢s values align with its vision; much like the latter, they are also rather vague, including commonplace statements such as ââ¬Å"caring,â⬠ââ¬Å"high standards,â⬠ââ¬Å"making a differenceâ⬠and ââ¬Å"respectâ⬠(Wegmans 3). Camdenââ¬â¢s values, on the contrary, are ra ther distinct and very direct, involving the concern the above-mentioned concept of empowerment. Therefore, it seems that Wegmans could use a better set of values, which could be directed at its core stakeholders directly. Core Business Wegmans traditionally defines people as its core business (Holtom, Mitchell and Lee 316). The specified statement is quite reasonable in the light of the fact that the company values its every single stakeholder and puts an equally strong emphasis on its staff and its clients. Camden, in its turn, makes it quite clear that environmental awareness and sustainability are the business practices that constitute the basis of the companyââ¬â¢s operations (About Us par. 1). Consequently, Camden is focused on the community rather than on individual stakeholders.
